Abstract

Abstract— Game of Thrones is one of the most watched television series by viewers around the world, which is a major themed serial seizure of thrones or power. The power struggle involved the main characters, including the females. Female figures involved in this power struggle include Daenerys Targaryen and Melisandre. In the context of the seizure of the main throne (Iron Throne), the power of their languages became one of the important factors that led them to the main battle arena among the seven kingdoms which were largely dominated by male figures. This study aims to describe the identities of Daenerys and Melisandre figures as mother of dragons and red priestess, and reveal strategies for using their language skills to win power struggles. The method used is Pierre Bourdieu's genetic structuralism with its concepts of social practice, habitus, arena, and capital, especially language as cultural capital. These two women are very prominent in terms of their language skills, to communicate, convince, and control the public. Language here, is not only a means of communication, but also as a social practice, which is closely related to the struggle of various interests.
