The Importance of Maintaining Quality of Drinking Water Refill Through Periodic Bacteriological Examination

Abstract


Water is a primary need of the community which is very important, especially to be consumed as drinking water. The amount of drinking water needed by the community continues to increase in line with population growth. The rapidly increasing population is in fact not offset by the availability of enough clean water for drinking. Currently drinking water is used for consumption of various types. Most high economic communities consume Bottled Drinking Water (AMDK) because it is more practical and is considered to be more hygienic. While others choose to consume Refill Drinking Water (AMIU) produced by the Refill Drinking Water Depot (DAMIU) as an alternative because it is more economical. In recent years the development of mineral refill drinking water depots and RO (Reverse Osmosis) businesses has mushroomed. The quality of water that is ready to be offered to the community is sufficiently maintained because the water is supplied directly from mountain springs which depend on the refill water company depot agent. The drinking water quality requirements set by the government include physical, chemical, bacteriological and radioactive requirements.  Physical requirements include color, temperature, turbidity, taste and odor.  Chemical requirements include organic, inorganic chemicals, pesticides, disinfectants and their by-products.  Whereas bacteriological requirements include Escherichia coli and total Coliform bacteria. To maintain the quality of drinking water offered to the public, DAMIU needs to periodically carry out bacteriological examinations.
