Esensi pembelajaran matematika adalah menyiapkan peserta didik untuk dapat mengembangkan kemampuan matematis seperti literasi numerasi. Namun fakta menunjukkan bahwa literasi numerasi peserta didik masih rendah. Salah satu faktor yang mempengaruhi adalah belum terimplementasinya pembelajaran yang memperhatikan kebutuhan belajar peserta didik. Inovasi model Challenge based on Differentiated Learning menjadi alternatif untuk mengembangkan literasi numerasi dan memfasilitasi kebutuhan belajar peserta didik. Model ini memberikan kesempatan belajar bagi peserta didik untuk menyelesaikan tantangan secara kolaboratif yang berkaitan masalah di kehidupan sehari – hari. Tidak hanya itu, kebutuhan belajar juga diperhatikan dengan tersedianya pilihan pembelajaran yang memperhatikan gaya belajar peserta didik. Implementasi model ini akan memberikan dampak terhadap pengembangan literasi numerasi peserta didik
