This research aims to find out how yakuwarigo is translated from Japanese into Indonesian. Kinsui (2011) defines yakuwarigo as a variety of language that includes expressions, vocabulary, intonation and grammar that explains a person’s characteristics in terms of age, era, occupation, gender and region. In Indonesian, the concept of dialect is known. However, translating yakuwarigo into Indonesian does not necessarily result in a dialect. Effective strategies and techniques are essential for producing precise, accurate, and logically sound translations. This sentence provides the context within which the research was conducted. This study employs a qualitative research approach. The data source for this research is the anime titled Mairimashita! Iruma-Kun by Osamu Nishi. In this study, 20 instances of data were analyzed. Among these, 11 data points fall under the daimeshi category, while the remaining 9 data points belong to the kandoushi category. Based on Gottlieb’s (2011) concept subtitle translation, this study reveals that translator employed several strategies. Specifically, the data analysis indicates the following distribution: Transference (7 instances), Paraphrase (7 instances), Deletion (4 instances), Expansion (1 instance), Condensation (1 instance).

Keywords: Mairimashita! Iruma-kun; subtitle translation; yakuwarigo.
