Abstract. Grounded theory is one of the five approaches used in qualitative research methodologies. This paper aims to elaborate on a grounded approach to theory from the point of view of definition, historical grounded theory, theoretical and philosophical framework, characteristics and principles of methods, and processes and scope of data and grounded theory analysis. In general, a grounded theory approach is based on the effort to collect field data, which is then developed and proven through systematic data analysis and the end result can test existing theories and or find a new theory. The grounded theory approach moves from the empirical level to the level of conceptual-theoretical or research to find a theory based on: n data. From the data a concept is built and from it a hypothesis is built, and from the data a theory is produced.
