Pendekatan Filsafat Sains sebagai Strategi Pembelajaran Diferensial di Perguruan Tinggi
Abstract
The philosophy of science approach in mathematics learning provides a conceptual foundation for students to understand the essence of differential concepts more deeply. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of applying the philosophy of science approach in improving students’ understanding of the fundamental principles of differentiation in higher education. The research employed a quasi-experimental method with a pretest–posttest control group design. The research instruments consisted of a conceptual understanding test and semi-structured interviews. The t-test results indicated a significant difference (t = 7.04; p < 0.05) between the control and experimental groups. Students who learned through the philosophy of science approach demonstrated higher conceptual gains than those who received conventional instruction. This approach encouraged students not merely to memorize differentiation formulas but to comprehend the essence, process, and scientific meaning of differentiation within the context of science and real-life applications.
