This article presents a philosophical analysis of the closure of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) programs, arguing that it reflects a categorical mistake in higher education policy driven by the paradigm of “industrial relevance.” It examines whether this orientation is conceptually, constitutionally, and structurally sound as a basis for organizing academic disciplines in universities. The article argues that excluding SSH is a categorical mistake rooted in reducing higher education to a producer of human capital and in misreading national employment problems. Using philosophical-conceptual reasoning, historical analysis, and political-economic critique, it shows that the low absorption of educated labor is caused by premature deindustrialization and stagnation in the manufacturing sector, not by the irrelevance of SSH. SSH serves important normative and emancipatory roles by cultivating critical reason and helping resist digital neocolonialism. The article concludes by emphasizing the need for integrated collaboration between SSH and STEM.
