Folklore as Alternative Storytelling Media for Millennial Generation

Abstract


Abstract. The Millennial generation is a term for generation Y, a group of people born in the early 1980s - 2000 after generation X. Their ability to use telecommunications, media and, digital technology is more advanced than the previous generation. Also they tend not to care about the social conditions around them, such as political, social, economic conditions, even most of them are very proud of lifestyle freedom, tend to be hedonism and happy to show off. They also like things that are practical and visually appealing. This research is motivated by the changes in communication patterns of millennial generation compared to previous generations, including in the delivery of folklore in the form of folklore. This change in communication patterns will have an impact on their interest in reading folklore, supported by the existence of many new media that are currently developing which are alternatives in telling folklore besides conventional media and how effective the media are in communicating stories will be discussed in this presentation. The research was conducted quantitatively based on the lifestyle study approach and millennial generation tastes in obtaining information. Methods of data collection were carried out through literature studies, lifestyle observations and questionnaires to find out their interest in reading and conveying folklore.
