The Strategy for Strengthening Multicultural Education at The Primary School Level

Abstract


Abstract - Cultural, ethnic, religious and belief diversity must be maintained in a bond of the Indonesian people. The said diversity shall be as a spirit to respect differences. To maintain and shape the character of Indonesian people, the Indonesian government has included the item of multiculturism as one of the eight pillars in the National master plan cultural development. The ongoing implemention of multicultural education can be seen in the insertion of plurality, diversity, and multiculturalism in the hidden Indonesian curriculum. The concept of a multicultural education curriculum is to achieve the ability to live based on norms which exists from diverse community as a process towards a better life of nation and state. Hence, the purpose of multicultural education is to restructure schools from which students may obtain attitudes, knowledge and skills needed to deal with differences and diversity. The current library research aims at examining the strategies for strengthening multicultural education at the primary school level in Indonesia. It uses a descriptive analysis approach. Data is collected by describing the comparison of the results of previous studies and related theories and other relevant sources
