Bullying Implication on Mental Health and Main Character Building in Joker Movie by Todd Phillips

Abstract


The purpose of this research is to analyze bullying indicators and its implication on mental health and main character building in Joker movie by Todd Phillips.Data is obtained, analyzed and explained based on dialogue data contained in the movie. The method used in this research is descriptive-qualitative which aims to describe bullying that affects the main character action.The research elaborates 1) Bullying indicators in Joker movie. From the data dialogue table, the writer finds out that main character experienced three types of bullying; physical bullying, verbal bullying and emotional bullying. There are 15 indicators of bullying in Joker movie. The indicator consists of a) 9 emotional bullying or 60%, b) 4 verbal bullying or 27% and c) 2 physical bullying 13%. Therefore, the most type of bullying happened in Joker movie is emotional bullying. 2) Bullying implication on mental health and character building, based on SOR theory, main character got a) 15 or 62% data from stimulus, b) 5 or 21% data from organism and c) 4 or 17% data from response. This shows mental health and character building are mostly affected by the stimulus.
