Abstract

This study investigates the effects of vocabulary mastery and
learning interest towards students’ English grammatical understanding at
vocational high schools in North Jakarta. Employing a survey method with
random sampling, 88 students were selected as participants. Data were
collected using tests and analyzed through descriptive statistics. The findings
reveal significant collective effects of vocabulary mastery and learning
interest on grammatical understanding, contributing 71.8%. Vocabulary
mastery alone accounts for 45.5%, while learning interest contributes 28.35%
to grammatical understanding. These results underscore the importance of
vocabulary enrichment and fostering learning interest to enhance students’
proficiency in grammar. This study provides practical implications for
educators to integrate targeted strategies that improve both vocabulary and
motivation in English language education.
