Abstract

This research used a quantitative survey approach to examine the relationship between a perception of genre-based learning model, writing attitude, and the writing skills of 88 junior high school students in Kepulauan Seribu Regency. The research aimed to investigate the partial and simultaneous effects of genre based learning model and writing attitude towards students' writing skill . The data was collected using questionnaires and a writing test, then analyzed with multiple linear regression. The results showed that both variables had significant impact, specifically: (1) students’ perceptions of genre based learning model towards writing skill, (Sig. = 0.021 < 0.05, tcount = 2.358); (2) writing attitude towards writing skill, (Sig.= 0.000 < 0.05, tcount = 7.853), and (3) both variables, simultaneously towards writing skill, (Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05, Fcount = 223.088). The research concluded that both variables played important role for the development of students' writing proficiency in English.
