SCREENING KETAHANAN TERHADAP ALUMINIUM PADA BEBERAPA VARIETAS SELADA (Lactuca sativa L.)
Abstract

ABSTRACT
Lettuce is one of the potential vegetable crops to be developed. The need for vegetables is not accompanied by an increase in production. Due to the decline in vegetable plantation areas cause change in land functions and to the conversion of land from wetlands to acid soil. Plant growth in acid soil faces the main problem, mainly aluminum stress (Al). Therefore it is necessary to adapt the plants to acid soil conditions and select plants that have tolerance to Al stress. The most easily applied technique for selecting plant resistance to Al is screening using a solution culture method by adding Al and adjusting the pH of the solution. The purpose of this activity was to observe the growth response of several lettuce varieties against Al stress. Lettuces were used in this study, namely: Romaine Ballon, Batavia Red, and New Grand Rapid. The lettuce of 14 days after germination was given Al treatment with concentrations 0, 100, 200, and 300 mg/L. The application of Al culture method showed that Batavia Red tended to be more resistant to Al than other types of lettuce. This activity was the first step in suppressing the type of lettuce tolerant of Al.
