Translation Method in English Language Learning: Students’ Perspective
Abstract
Abstract— The present study focuses on the use of translation which is used by the students to achieve and develop their competence and knowledge of English language. Translation is integrated into language learning processes, such as reading, listening, writing, and vocabulary development which could be defined as a “pedagogical tool”. The activity of translation makes students communicating into and from the foreign language. While translation activity, students know the difference of vocabulary and structure, and to strengthen grammar mastery and their own way of thinking, and to correct common mistakes that could otherwise remain unnoticed. Students can make the best learning activity, if they are motivated and guided to use translation skills properly. Translation activities are still used in the English learning program at Universitas Islam Syekh-Yusuf (UNIS) Tangerang. This study is based on a brief theoretical literature overview, analysis of the activities in the English language classroom and analysis of the data survey. The findings suggest that translation still exists as a good method in the English language learning to enhance students’ English language skills.
