The Character and Plot in the Movie “Mulan 2020” by Niki Caro

Abstract


The purpose of this research is to analyze character and plot in movie “Mulan 2020” by Niki Caro. This research was conducted in Jakarta by using qualitative descriptive research method. The technique of collecting data on this research used content analysis that was acquired from the dialogue and scenes of the movie. The procedures were conducted by choosing the text and dialogues from “Mulan 2020” movie by Niki Caro, analyzing data, interpreting data, and the last was concluding the result of study. The total sample of analysis is 113 consists of 35 data for character and 78 data for plot. The result of the research is 35 characters shown up in the story. It contains of 1 Main Character (2.9%), 6 Protagonist (17.1%), 6 Antagonist (17.1%), 4 Supporting (11.4%), 5 Round (14.3%), 6 Flat (17.1%), 5 Static (14.3%), and 2 Dynamic (5.7%). The researcher found that the plot appears 78 of sequences that has been analyzed. It contains 12 sequences of Exposition (15.4%), 43 sequences of Raising Action (55.1%), 17 sequences of Climax (21.8%), 4 sequences of Falling Action (5.1%), and 2 sequences of Denouement (2.6%).
