Psychological Aspects of Personality, Character of The Main Character of The Film Wish by Jennifer Lee and Its Implementation in Learning English

Abstract


The aim of this research is to analyze and describe the psychology of the personality, character of the main character in the film Wish by Jennifer Lee and how to implement it in learning English through studying the psychoanalytic approach of the three elements of id, ego, and superego from Sigmund Freud’s theory. The research method used by the author is a descriptive qualitative method in which research data is described in the form of words and language. The focus of this research study was carried out by utilizing audio-visual literary work object in the form of a fictional animated film entitled Wish by Jennifer Lee with the focus of this research being on the psychological aspects of the main character’s personality and character. After the author analyzes the film Wish by Jennifer Lee through the psychological aspects of the personality and character of the main character Asha, the author can draw conclusion that the id aspect of the main character is more dominant than the superego and ego. Where the results of the analysis illustrate that there are 29 ids, 10 superego, and 10 egos in the main character in the film Wish by Jennifer Lee. Asha’s story is about the journey of teenage girl who describes the process of developing maturity in thinking, acting, and using her time to do things that are positive and beneficial to many people. The strong character of the main character, Asha in the film Wish by Jennifer Lee is none other than strong-willed, self-confident, independent, compassionate, hardworking, brave enough to speak the truth without looking at who she is facing. One of the implementations of the use of fictional animation film Wish in learning English is that it can focus on 4 skills in English, namely 4 language skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.
