The Effects of Vocabulary and Grammar Mastery on Students’ Writing Recount Text (Survey at Private Senior High Schools in Bekasi)
Abstract
The objectives of this research are to analyze and to know about the effects of vocabulary and grammar mastery on students’ writing recount text, and the effects of grammar mastery on students’ writing recount text. The method used in this research is a survey method. By random sampling, the researcher determines the sample of this research are 60 students. Data collection with instruments: test, data analysis with descriptive statistics such as finding the mean, median, mode, standard deviation, and predictive statistics, specially finding the correlation coefficient with the t test. The researchers conducted direct tests in both classes for nearly a month during this research process. The research was carried out from September to October.
The results show: 1) There are significant effects of vocabulary and grammar mastery collectively on students’ writing recount text. This is indicated by the acquisition of Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05 and Fcount = 49.932. Vocabulary and grammar mastery contribute 63,7 % of the time to students’ writing recount text. 2) There is significant effect of vocabulary mastery on students’ wrting recount text. This is indicated by the acquisition of Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05 and tcount = 2316. The contribution of vocabulary mastery on students’ writing recount text is 0.38 x 0.782 x 100% = 29,71%. 3)There is significant effect grammar mastery on students’ writing recount text. This is indicated by the acquisition of Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05 and tcount = 2.002 The contribution of grammar mastery on students’ writing recount text is 0.178 x 0.561 x 100% = 99,9%.
