THE EFFECT OF MASTERY OF VOCABULARY AND GRAMMAR ON THE ABILITY TO WRITE ENGLISH TEXTS

Abstract


The purpose of this study was to determine 1) The effect of mastery of vocabulary and grammar together on the ability to write English texts in private vocational students in Depok City, 2) The effect of vocabulary mastery on the ability to write English texts of private vocational students in Depok, 3) The effect of grammar mastery on the ability to write English texts in private vocational students in Depok City. The research method used was a survey. Sampling is done by random sampling technique. Data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires directly to students with 60 respondents. This research was conducted in October 2019 in three Private Vocational Schools in Depok, namely Vocational High School Depok, Vocational Assalamah and Vocational Health Bhakti Insani. The results showed: 1) There was a significant influence in mastering vocabulary and grammar together on the ability to write English texts in private vocational students in Depok City. This is evidenced by the acquisition of Sig. 0.003 <0.05 and Fcount = 6.306. 2) There is a significant influence in the mastery of vocabulary on the ability to write English texts of private vocational students in Depok City. This is evidenced by the acquisition of Sig. 0.003 <0.05 and tcount = 3.137. 3) There is no significant effect of grammar mastery on the ability to write English texts in private vocational students in Depok City. This is evidenced by the acquisition of Sig. 0.692 <0.05 and t = 0.398.
