The Influence of Vocabulary Mastery and Perception of School Environment on Students' Ability to Read Descriptive Texts

Abstract


This study aims to measure the influence of 1) vocabulary mastery and perception of the school environment simultaneously on the ability to read descriptive texts, 2) vocabulary mastery on the ability to read descriptive texts, and 3) perception of the school environment on the ability to read descriptive texts. This study employs a quantitative method with multiple linear regression analysis. Based on data analysis, it is proven that: 1) There is a significant simultaneous influence of vocabulary mastery and perception of the school environment on the ability to read descriptive texts, as shown by the calculated F-value of 140.759, which is greater than the F-table value of 3.060. 2) There is a significant influence of vocabulary mastery on the ability to read descriptive texts, evidenced by a significance value (p-value) of 0.000, which is smaller than α(0.05). 3) There is a significant influence of perception of the school environment on the ability to read descriptive texts, proven by a significance value (p-value) of 0.000, which is smaller than α(0.05).
