The Effect of Vocabulary Mastery and Simple Present Tense on the Ability to Write English Description Text (Survey at Private High Schools in Bogor Regency)

Abstract


This research aims to know, analyze and examine the truth of the hypothesis on the effects of vocabulary and simple present tense mastery towards the skill of students of private senior high schools in Bogor Regency, in writing English descriptive texts. The research employed a survey method. The results of the research are: 1). There is a significant effect of mastery of vocabulary and simple present tense together on the ability to write English description text in private high schools in Bogor Regency. This is evidenced by the acquisition of Sig. 0.000b <0.05 and Fcount of 69.136, 2).There is a significant effect of vocabulary mastery on the ability to write English description text in private high schools in Bogor Regency. This can be proven by the acquisition of Sig. 0.000 <0.05 and tcount of 7.613, 3). There is a significant effect of simple present tense on the ability to write English description text in SMA Swasta Kabupaten Bogor. This, can be proven by the acquisition of Sig. 0.001 < 0.05 and tcount of 4.790. This  research results show that the students’ skills in writing English descriptive texts are strongly influenced by the vocabulary and simple present tense mastery. Therefore, teachers of the private senior high schools should be active in improving the students’ vocabulary and simple present tense mastery through creating guided learning and up-to-date learning methods. The teachers also need to give the students motivation, assistance dan periodical review to continuously practice enriching their vocabulary, improving their simple present tense and skill in writing English descriptive texts.
