Representasi Perjuangan Perempuan dan Perubahan Sosial Budaya dalam Novel Gadis Kretek dan Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck serta Implikasinya terhadap Pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di SMK Kelas X
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the representation of women’s struggles and socio-cultural changes in the novelis “Gadis Kretek” by Ratih Kumala and “Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck” by Hamka, and their implications for Indonesian language learning in Grade X vocational schools. The research employs qualitative analysis methods with a feminist literary and sociological approach. The findings show that in “Gadis Kretek”, women are portrayed as independent individuals challenging patriarchal norms, while in “Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck”, women are depicted fighting against restrictive traditional customs. Socio-cultural changes in both novels create conflicts between tradition and modernity, influencing women’s roles in families, love relationships, and society. This study highlights the importance of teaching gender equality, social criticism, and the relationship between literature and social issues to enrich Indonesian language learning.
